Bell Ringing at Ellisfield

There has been a tradition of bell-ringing at Ellisfield over many years. However, it is true that continuity in the art is only achieved through the constant teaching of new recruits, and the progression of ringers to more advanced levels.

There have been periods of time when the bells have been silent through lack of ringers. The late Eddie Cole was a stalwart member of the band (latterly Tower Captain) for many years, and was the last survivor of the band which rang in the post-war period.

A new band was formed around 1990 and, with the move of Chris and Heather Kippin to the village in 1991, the band has been consolidated and increased. There are now nine ringers, at various stages, who live in Ellisfield or Farleigh, and another two waiting to learn.
